Viola Davis
Viola Davis’ outstanding performance in “The Woman King” may have just secured her a berth in the best actress category. As colonists attempt to capitalize on tribal conflict, Davis plays the general of an elite group of female fighters modeled after the Agojie of 19th-century west Africa. The Agojie’s battle-scarred general Nanisca is portrayed by Davis. Tough, disciplined, and constantly on the lookout for attacks from their longtime foe, the Oyo empire, Nanisca is also concerned that the new king Ghezo (John Boyega), who replaced his brother in a coup, is not paying enough attention to these matters. She shared “The Woman King” Workout Routine in an interview with POP SUGAR, “I was 56 when I trained to be this warrior: five hours a day, hour and a half of weight training, three and a half hours of martial arts (punching), 10.0 on the treadmill.”
