The film is about Emmett Till, the 14-year-old whose gruesome murder in Mississippi in 1955 by white supremacists helped spark the civil rights movement. “Till” is the actress’s first main role in a feature picture, despite the fact that she has recently been a dominant presence in lesser screen appearances.
