Tembele

Uganda recently submitted Morris Mughisha’s ‘Tembele’ as its first-ever international feature Oscars submission. Tembele might just win the award for Best International Feature for the first time. The drama centers on Tembele (Patriq Nkakalukanyi), a mentally ill garbage collector in Kampala who starts to lose his sense of reality after the loss of his young kid. Cosmas Serubogo and Ronah Soledad Ninsiima also appear. Tembele had its world premiere in Uganda this summer and won best film, best actor, and best supporting actor at the Uganda Film Festival Awards. It has not yet been made available abroad. The Academy Awards have long brushed off films from Africa. We hope that “Tembele” wins the position.
