First Movies –  Pullman Porter (1910) and Railway Porter (1912)

The first African American movies were directed by Bill Foster and came out in 1910 and 1912 respectfully. In 1910, the comedy movie The Pullman Porter came out directed under the first Black film company – The Foster Photoplay Company established in 1909. In 1912, the second movie under the Foster Photoplay Company came out as The Railway Porter was doing better than The Pullman Porter. Both movies were short comedy films that were brought out to portray the African American positively.  The Railway Porter went on to become credited as having the first chase scene in film history.
