Iwe Irohin (1859) – Presbyterian Missionary and Nigerian church members

The first newspaper in Nigeria was written in Yoruba and later in English. It was started by a missionary in Nigeria who gathered willing church members who could write in Yoruba. The newspaper is celebrated as the first newspaper in Nigeria that was written in an indigenous language. Published every 8 days, the paper lasted until 1867 after the clash between the Egbas of Yoruba and British. After 140 years, the paper was started again in 2012.
