Sprint stars Sha’Carri Richardson and Christian Coleman have pleaded not guilty after the couple was arrested in Orlando, Florida, last Thursday.

The attorney handling the couple’s case, Alisia Adamson, filed documents in court on Monday to enter their pleas, TMZ Sports reported.

As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Richardson, 25, was pulled over and arrested for allegedly driving over 100 mph.

Per CBS News, Richardson was pulled over by an Orange County sheriff’s deputy on S.R. 429, near Stoneybrook Parkway, for hitting a speed of 104 mph, authorities said. The track and field star, who is from Dallas, was said to be tailgating and overtaking other drivers by switching lanes.

The driver of the vehicle in question was ultimately identified as Richardson. She was charged with dangerous excessive speeding. Richardson also received a citation for multiple driving violations.

The traffic stop was captured on body cam footage. In the video, the Olympic gold medalist claimed that she was speeding because her back tire was underinflated, TMZ Sports reported. She further claimed that the settings on the Aston Martin vehicle she was driving had changed after her phone mistakenly struck the buttons. She was, however, unable to convince the officer.

Richardson also attempted to convince the officer not to arrest her by claiming that she was “a law-abiding citizen.” But her efforts proved futile.

Coleman, on the other hand, was later arrested after he arrived at the scene where Richardson was pulled over. The 29-year-old was ultimately hit with misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting (without violence).

The arrest affidavit stated that the officer was completing paperwork when Coleman arrived at the scene and approached Richardson. The officer said that he ordered Coleman to go back to his car, and the sprinter initially obliged. But Coleman did not comply later, as he repeatedly attempted to explain why Richardson was speeding.

Coleman also declined to provide his identification when he was asked to do so, and he was ultimately arrested for resisting.

Police further said that a “glass smoking device” was found in his car during a search, adding that though the bowl side was cleaned, it had seemingly been used. Authorities also said that the bowl area contained a tiny portion of green, leafy plant material.

The couple ultimately posted bond after they was taken into custody.

Last Thursday’s incident wasn’t the first time that Richardson and Coleman have made the news for the wrong reasons. In July 2025, Richardson was arrested and charged in connection with a domestic violence incident against Coleman.

The incident in question occurred at the Seattle–Tacoma International Airport, and footage showed Richardson appearing to get physical with Coleman.

She was ultimately arrested and charged with fourth-degree domestic violence assault. She was released after 19 hours, per the New York Post. The Athletic also reported that Coleman opted not to press charges and “declined to be a victim.”
