Authorities in Ohio have brought a slew of charges against a mother who allegedly kidnapped her 7-year-old son and posted an Instagram video of her torturing the minor.
Per WTAE, 32-year-old Tiarika Baymon’s alleged actions caused local authorities to issue an Amber Alert in Brunswick, Ohio. The Amber Alert stated that Baymon’s son was in her custody and in a life-threatening condition.
A warrant for Baymon’s arrest was ultimately issued, and it stated that the minor had been subjected to significant abuse and torture. Authorities at the time also said that the boy had suffered traumatic injuries.
Ross Township Police Deputy Chief Brian Kohlhepp stated that Baymon even took to Instagram to post a video of her torturing her son.
“An Instagram video that she had uploaded, which actually showed the child, bound and being tortured by her,” Kohlhepp stated.
Baymon’s vehicle was ultimately found in a secluded area after police reviewed tracking information. Police said Baymon had a gun on her lap and was sleeping in her car when officers found her, adding that her son was in the back and on seats that had been folded down, WTAE reported.
“They had to reach in and unfortunately remove her from the car. She didn’t suffer any injuries as a part of that. And the gun actually fell out onto the ground during that exchange,” Kohlhepp said.
Baymon was ultimately taken into custody on September 15, while her son was transported to a children’s hospital, WECT reported. The minor is said to have suffered several injuries and possibly broken bones, WTAE reported.
The minor, in the criminal complaint, also stated that his mother used a glass bottle to strike him in the face and held him back with belts and exercise straps.
Baymon faces a slew of charges, including endangering the welfare of a child.
