Authorities in D.C. said a 17-year-old suspect took to Instagram Live to brag about fatally shooting a 14-year-old boy. Per NBC4 Washington, authorities also said they believe the suspect was in the company of his mother when he opened fire on the victim.
The November 3 incident is said to have occurred outside a gas station. It was also captured on surveillance footage. The video in question shows the suspected shooter, identified as Lorinzo Thompson, wearing a ski mask and opening fire on three victims who were on scooters.
One of the victims, identified as 14-year-old Niko Estep, succumbed to his injuries. Three days after the fatal shooting, Thompson allegedly bragged about his actions on Instagram Live, court documents stated, adding that the jacket and sneakers he was wearing during the broadcast matched that of the gunman seen in the surveillance footage.
Authorities also said an ammunition magazine, which they found in the suspect’s bedroom during a search, matched the caliber of the murder weapon. During the shooting, footage showed a woman with red braids witnessing what was occurring. She, however, watched on and did not intervene before later leaving with Thompson.
An officer, who had apprehended Thompson in connection with a previous robbery, informed detectives that the gunman in the footage resembled the 17-year-old, NBC4 Washington reported. The officer also said the woman looked like Thompson’s mother.
“Officer Whitfield looked at the still shot of the female with red braids for approximately 15-20 seconds before he stated that it looked like Lorenzo [sic] Thompson’s mother,” the documents stated.
Thompson would be tried as an adult on a charge of second-degree murder while armed. Authorities, however, did not provide details on the motive behind the fatal incident.
