In central and eastern Africa where the killings of people with albinism are rife, they are spoken about in terms of how much they are worth. Those parts of Africa are also some of the poorest.

The commodification of albinos is thus an answer to bread and butter issues for those willing to maim and kill them. Parts of albinos reportedly sell as much as $75,000.
