Madagascar

Ranking third in the world, Madagascar has the second highest rate of child marriage among boys in Africa, scoring 13 per cent. Overall, the country has the 13th highest prevalence rate of child marriage in the world. 41 per cent of girls in Madagascar are married before their 18th birthday and 12 per cent are married before the age of 15. The practice of child marriage has been attributed to poverty, traditional customs, and low levels of education.
