Marian Anderson
It was a constant battle for Marian Anderson as she always fought to perform for the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was overruled and wasn’t allowed to do so.
It was an invitation to perform at the Constitution Hall that she made her stance louder to the organisers. She agreed to perform if there would be “no segregation of Negroes.”
Initially, the DAR was not game but had to give in eventually in 1943. Anderson performed for an integrated crowd.
