Credo Mutwa
Vusamazulu Credo Mutwa is a Zulu sangoma, or traditional healer from Natal, South Africa.
Mutwa was born out of wedlock when his Zulu mother and Christian father parted ways due to religious conflicts.
When Mutwa was young, he was sent to his grandfather because he was sick and doctors were not able to help. His grandfather who was labeled a “devil worshipper” nursed him back to health.
It was then Mutwa began to question Christian principles and what missionaries had relayed to his people about the Christian religion.
Mutwa developed a cultural tourist village branded Kwa-Khaya Lendaba, formulated the Vulinda Trust as a way to preserve traditional language and has done extensive research on a South African plant named Unwele which has shown anti-cancer properties.
Mutwa is famously known for predicting the epidemic of AIDS in South Africa – three years before scientists discovered HIV.
