This elderly couple fell in love and got married after meeting on a dating site during pandemic

Seventy-eight-year-old Jim Adams and Audrey Coutts, 79, never really envisioned falling in love again until they were matched on a dating site during the pandemic last year.

Prior to the love birds meeting and subsequently dating, Coutts had been divorced for 33 years. Adams was also single after losing his wife in 2017 after 38 years of marriage, according to Oprah Daily.

But Adams and Coutts got another shot at love thanks to Silver Singles. The dating site, which is for people aged 50 and above, matched Adams with Coutts a week after Adams, a retired professor and painter, opened an account. Their compatibility was rated at 94 percent after their interests were compared. And this came at a time when Coutts was thinking about leaving the platform after being a member for almost four years.

“I came across Audrey on my first go-through on the site,” Adams recalled. “It only took a day to find her. After that, I didn’t need it anymore. I said, ‘Well, I have to meet this person who’s as crazy as I am.’”

Coutts also told the outlet that though she had been on the platform for years, she never really matched anyone with a compatibility rate exceeding 82 percent. But that changed with Adams. “We just fit. We clicked,” she said. “We still don’t know why it wasn’t 100.”

Coutts eventually moved in with Adams three months after their first date. They then took their relationship to the next step in May this year after Adams popped the question.

“It seemed like I’d been living with her for years,” Adams told Oprah Daily. “I’d be sitting here thinking about something, then she would say it. I would start to say something, and she’d say the same thing almost at the same time. We were connected. So what were we waiting for? The only reason it took me so long to propose was I had to find the ring, and that took two months.”

The elderly couple got hitched on September 25 and Adams’ son shared a photo of the smiling newlyweds on Twitter. The image, which went viral, has amassed over 155k likes and almost 5,000 retweets. The couple also received tons of good wishes.

“That’s what brought us some joy. To look at all these people who say they feel they’re happy about it,” Coutts said. “Especially in this time, I think people are hungry for good news and maybe some people are lonely and, you know, maybe isolating like we were…it’s resonating with so many.”

Coutts is residing with Adams at his Vancouver residence, and the couple said they are enjoying their time together. “We live on a quiet street, and we have a quiet life. We can spend days on end doing very little and when it’s raining, we don’t even need to go out,” Adams said.

“I paint, I’ll rub Audrey’s feet, and go back and paint some more.”
