Art is a lot of work for those who aren’t so keen about it. And for those who appreciate it, art is beautiful. Art is creativity in all its splendor but most of all, art is lots of hard work. In many forms of art, it takes longer than a few hours, a day or even a week to create a stunningly time-tested work.
In Nigeria today, while stand-up comedy is a big industry in the country proving further the humorous nature of the people of this popular West-African country, there is a young man who is doing comedy in a rather interestingly novel way.
Real name, Toheeb Adedokun Akorede, he is famously known on social media as Funny Toheeb. This master impersonator, imitator and re-maker of outfits of popular people has become a huge sensation not entirely because of his imitations but due to the immense efforts he commits into his work, using cheap and common items to just reproduce what he sees.
From the use of nuts, polythene, animal feathers, to noodles, plastic bottles, plain sheets, among others, this young man has impersonated celebrities such as Beyonce, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, 50 Cents, Nicki Minaj, President Buhari of Nigeria, among many other celebrities and personalities around the world, many of whom are Nigerians.
Speaking to the BBC, he said his aim is to bring people out of depression in what he terms “motivation amidst depression.”
