Authorities in D.C. said an eight-month-pregnant model and businesswoman who was shot, underwent a C-section and gave birth to her daughter before she succumbed to gunshot wounds. According to PEOPLE, Samya Gill is said to have given birth before dying on the same day she was shot.

The deceased 22-year-old victim was in a car with a male companion when multiple shooters opened fire on them, per ABC7. Police described the June 15 shooting as a planned attack. The male victim, who was said to be the baby’s father, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital in the wake of the shooting.

The baby was also said to be in critical condition at the time of this report. “She’s beautiful,” Gill’s mother said about the baby. “I went to go see her last night, and she’s just gorgeous.”

The deceased woman’s mother said her newborn granddaughter wasn’t shot during the attack, adding that the minor’s condition was a “little better” a day after she was prematurely born.

Authorities are, however, yet to apprehend the suspects. The Metropolitan Police Department is also offering a $25,000 reward for information that can help them track down the shooters.

“I just really hope they catch whoever did that to my daughter,” Gill’s mother said. A GoFundMe has since been set up to help raise funds for the newborn baby.
