Cyclone Leon-Eline
When the powerful Cyclone Leon-Eline struck Mozambique and Madagascar in 2000, over 800 people died and 300,000 people were displaced as homes were destroyed and towns got flooded. The effects of Cyclone Leon-Eline, which is said to be the longest-lived Indian Ocean tropical cyclone on record, was also felt in South Africa. In Mozambique, officials say the situation was worse as the country was still recovering from Cyclone Connie that had hit the country earlier that year.
