UK’s Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch recently shared her sentiments about lunchtime meals, claiming that it is “not real food.” “Lunch is for wimps. I have food brought in and I work and eat at the same time. There’s no time…Sometimes I will get a steak,” the 44-year-old said in an interview with the Spectator.
UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer reacted to Badenoch’s meal preference for lunch, with his spokesperson saying on a lighter note that the PM was “surprised” about the opposition leader opting for steak, The Guardian reported. The spokesperson also said Starmer’s lunch preference was a cheese toastie.
Besides her distaste for lunch, Badenoch also said she’s not a fan of snacks that involve bread. “I’m not a sandwich person, I don’t think sandwiches are a real food, it’s what you have for breakfast,” Badenoch, who was born in the UK but spent much of her childhood in Nigeria, said. “I will not touch bread if it is moist.”
But Starmer’s spokesperson said the prime minister was seemingly “surprised to hear that the leader of the opposition has a steak brought in for lunch.” “The prime minister is quite happy with a sandwich lunch,” the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson also said he thinks the prime minister “enjoys a tuna sandwich and occasionally a cheese toastie” when asked about his favorite sandwich.
Badenoch later took to social media to react to the prime minister’s comments about lunchtime meals. But it appeared she wasn’t in for the jokes. “The PM has time to respond to my jokes about lunch … but no time for the farmers who produce our food,” she wrote.
