Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, is growing right before our eyes and we are glad to know he has already taken a keen interest in reading!
On Wednesday, the seventh in line to the British throne celebrated his first birthday and as part of the festivities, his mother read him a book to support Save The Children’s ‘Save With Stories’ campaign which is providing support to children who have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Seated on his mother’s lap with daddy recording, the Duchess of Sussex reads him the Duck! Rabbit! book while he looks on with excitement and enthusiasm while also helping mama flip the pages.
A spokesperson for the couple said inasmuch as they wanted to mark their son’s birthday, they also wanted to highlight the plight of the children affected by the pandemic.
“The family is participating in the campaign across both the US and UK to help bring much-needed support to children who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” the spokesperson said.
“As they celebrate this family moment, the Duke and Duchess wanted to continue to raise awareness around the urgency of bringing food and learning resources to millions of children.”
Nicknamed Arch, his parents announced they are going to launch a non-profit organization, Archewell, in his name last month. In a statement about the organization, the couple revealed how it served as an inspiration behind their son’s name.
“Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’ — the Greek word meaning ‘source of action.’ We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name,” they said, according to Insider.
“To do something of meaning, to do something that matters. Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon. We look forward to launching Archewell when the time is right.”
