NBA superstar LeBron James took to social media on Saturday to call for the suspension of a Texas state trooper after a video showed him appearing to intentionally bump into South Carolina player Nyck Harbor.
Per CNN, the Saturday incident occurred during South Carolina’s game against Texas A&M at Kyle Field, and the Department of Public Safety said the trooper in question was “sent home” in the aftermath of the incident.
South Carolina was leading the home team 27-3 at the time of the incident. In the video, Harbor and his teammates are seen exiting the tunnel as the trooper walks toward their direction. The trooper is then seen appearing to intentionally bump into Harbor and his teammate Oscar Adaway III before he seemingly points at Harbor and shouts at him.
Adaway is then seen leading Harbor away in an apparent attempt to de-escalate the situation. “We are aware of the incident in the NE tunnel involving a DPS trooper. He has been relieved of his game day assignment,” Texas A&M campus police later announced in a statement.
In another statement, the DPS also said that the trooper in question was “sent home.” “Our Office of Inspector General (OIG) is also aware of the incident and will be further looking into the matter. No additional information will be released at this time,” DPS added.

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer also touched on the incident, telling reporters that though he did not witness what happened, he was glad after being informed that the trooper was sent home.
“Got a ton of respect for the people here in College Station,” Beamer said. “They’re just a first-class operation, everybody. From a game operation standpoint, they really do a great job. They’re first-class people, so appreciate them handling that the right way, sending (the trooper) home.”
Los Angeles Lakers superstar James, on the other hand, called for a stiffer punishment in a post on X. “That A&M cop needs to suspended!” the four-time NBA champion posted.
“That was premeditated and corny AF!! . He went out his way to start some sh*t. Do better man.”
Despite the incident, the game went ahead without any further tension. Texas A&M ultimately won the game 31-30 after being down by 30-3 at halftime. That was Texas A&M’s biggest comeback ever, per CNN.
