A Wisconsin father has been accused of throwing his 8-month-old child against a wall out of frustration over losing a video game. Police in Milwaukee responded to a report of possible child abuse from a local hospital.
Jalin White has been arrested and charged with child abuse and neglect, as confirmed by online jail records cited by PEOPLE.
White, 20, was reportedly responsible for caring for his baby while the mother was out, according to a criminal complaint cited by CBS 58 and FOX 6.
Investigators noted that the child had multiple injuries at various stages of healing, including a swollen eye and injuries to his hands and leg.
A hospital scan revealed further severe injuries: fractured ribs, a skull fracture, and a broken collarbone.
Police allege that the child had other injuries at different stages of healing, suggesting ongoing abuse, according to WISN and FOX 6.
During the investigation, White reportedly gave multiple false accounts, including blaming the child’s mother, as stated in the criminal complaint.
He allegedly admitted to throwing his son against a wall in frustration over losing an NBA 2K game, according to a criminal complaint reported by FOX 6 and WISN.
He reportedly confessed to hearing a loud thud after the incident.
“He hit his head hard on the wall, bro,” part of his alleged confession read, according to the complaint.
“I heard the wall, it was hard on his head,” he continued. “I heard the impact of the wall after I tossed him.”
Police report that White became enraged over a two-point loss in an NBA 2K game, leading him to throw his 8-month-old son against a wall.
The child is not expected to survive, and charges may be upgraded to homicide if he dies.
He is currently held at Milwaukee County Jail on a $100,000 bond. It is unclear if he has entered pleas or retained an attorney.
