Legendary producer and musician Quincy Jones succumbed to pancreatic cancer, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health stated in his death certificate, TMZ reported.
The document also stated that the disease was the sole cause of his death. Pancreatic cancer is rated among the topmost cancer-related deaths in the United States.
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Jones passed away in his Los Angeles home on Sunday, November 3. The Grammy-winning producer and musician was 91. Jones’ publicist, Arnold Robinson, said he was surrounded by his family when he died.
“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” Robinson said in a statement. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”
Jones was the proud father of seven children, including his daughter Martina and son Quincy III, 55, from his second marriage to Ulla Andersson. He also had two daughters, Kikada, 50, and Rashida, 48, with his third wife, Peggy Lipton.
The legendary singer also had another daughter, Rachel, 61, with dancer Carol Reynolds, and another daughter, Kenya, 31, with actress Nastassja Kinski.
Jones collaborated with music legends such as Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, and Ray Charles throughout his illustrious career, which earned him 28 Grammys, two honorary Academy Awards, and an Emmy Award.
He also received prestigious accolades, including France’s Legion d’Honneur, the Rudolph Valentino Award from Italy, and a Kennedy Center tribute for his significant contributions to American culture.
The news about Jones’ cause of death comes after his family held a private burial for him in Los Angeles, TMZ reported. The family, however, said that a public event to celebrate his life will be organized on a yet-to-be-disclosed date.
