Margie, a proud matriarch from Oakland, California, has become a viral sensation due to her remarkable and still-growing family. Her family tree includes an incredible 150 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and an additional 50 great-great-grandchildren.
Margie recently shared her incredible life story on national television, appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show on January 12. Accompanied by her daughter, Pat, she offered a glimpse into the joyful, though sometimes overwhelming, reality of their uniquely large family.
During the conversation, Margie spoke with pride about the family she has built. She called her family the greatest source of joy and accomplishment in her life. She also admitted that she cannot remember the names of every descendant due to the large size of her family.
“Aw! I know they’re blessed to have you,” host Jennifer Hudson said, as reported by People. “Okay, so, how do you keep up with all of them?”
Margie replied, “I do not know all the names, but I have seven adult children, and so when I get down to the fourth generation and the fifth generation, I say that is my son’s daughter. And that is my daughter’s daughter. Family. But I am so blessed, Jennifer. I am blessed to be here and to know that there are families supporting you…”
Hudson then asked Pat to discuss her mother’s legacy.
“My mom is about to be 85, and she was born in Amarillo, Texas,” Pat recounted. “She was a child bride at 14. Before she was 21, she had five children. Eight children, seven alive. And then 150 grand, 50 great-grand, and then 50 great-great-grand, and the number is still adding.”
“Oh my goodness! I want to know. What do you appreciate most about your mother?” Hudson asked.
“That my mom gave birth to all eight of her children and she did the best, the very best that she could,” Pat said. “We all got college educations, we all are home-owners, business-owners. One of my nephews is almost getting his white-jacket to be a doctor, the other one is in the fire academy to be a firefighter. And then the one just passed the bar. So we are on fire.”
As the heartwarming segment unfolded, Jennifer Hudson, the show’s host, invited several members of Margie’s truly enormous family onto the stage to greet the audience. Turning back to Margie, Hudson mentioned that she had heard that there were still some great-grandchildren or perhaps even grandchildren whom Margie had never had the chance to meet in person.
She then asked the 85-year-old if she could surprise her again.
The matriarch was visibly overcome with emotion when Hudson introduced a grandchild she had not met before, live on the air. She immediately bent down to embrace her family members.
“All the way from Texas!” Margie declared as they sat next to her on the couch. “Thank you. We’re going to pass this love on.”
