Prevent dementia
Gum disease is common in older people who struggle to maintain their oral hygiene. Studies have shown that infrequent brushing of the teeth increases one’s risk of developing dementia, (a brain disease that leads to loss of memory). Other studies found that people who had lost so many teeth (from nine teeth and above) had a higher risk of dementia than people who hadn’t lost so many. It is therefore imperative not to stop practising good oral hygiene as you age.
