How to survive a terror attack

In the wake of the terror attack that hit Nairobi late Tuesday afternoon, Africa and the world have sent tributes to the victims, survivors and their families.

At least fourteen people were killed and 700 others evacuated from the hotel complex in Westlands, Nairobi, with assurance from the government that it would pursue the people involved in the attack.

There are concerns that incidents such as this show that the threat of terrorism is not over, heightening fears among people as to how to protect themselves in case of similar attacks.

Security experts say that terrorists typically attack public places with large crowds because they want to cause the most damage and get attention for their cause.

Mostly involving bombings and explosions, armed assault and facility attacks, assailants also usually target military and civilian infrastructure, corporate centres, public transport, landmarks and other iconic locations.

Terror attacks do lead to substantial injuries, deaths, devastating losses and other damages. As the frequency of such attacks continues to increase, here are some of the ways to protect yourself in the event of an attack:
