The Great Ethiopian Race

In a world filled with non-profits and charities striving to improve the human condition, only a few organizations seem to attain relevance.

In Ethiopia, an annual 10K race does just that. Envisioned by famous Ethiopian long distance runners; Haile Gebrselassie, Abi Masefield and Peter Middlebrook in October 2000, the Great Ethiopian Run takes place every November.

Today, the Great Ethiopian Run is a breeding ground for potential champions to cultivate their talent in long distance. Serving as a stepping-stone for success, previously unknown race winners have gone on to gain international acclaim through this project.

Other variations to the day’s events are a 5K race for female long distance runners and a Running for a Child kids carnival, from which all proceeds go to provide support for orphans and vulnerable children.

This is a great opportunity to get your athletic side kicking for the less fortunate and for the greater good. A massive event in the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, where the atmosphere is light and fun! If you’re in Ethiopia in November, or are planning to be in that part of the world, it’s not a bad idea to join in the fun and run for a child!
