The second lady of Malawi has released a rap song to support her husband’s presidential ambitions. Politics is changing in Africa as election campaign strategies are taking a different turn from the usual. Elections are no more about the essence of the campaign message but how the message is packaged to woo more voters, particularly, young people.
Over the course of time, there has been a growing trend of African politicians opting to divert from the usually stiff mode of campaigning during elections to adopting unorthodox and more personal strategies in order to woo the electorate and also make them feel they are a part of them.
Though some of these light-hearted strategies are embarrassingly hilarious and hypocritical, others are spot on and achieve their targets.
With the presidential elections in Malawi nearing, the 2nd lady of the country, Mary Chilima, whose husband Saulos Chilima, is part of the hopefuls contesting against the incumbent president Peter Mutharika has released a rap song titled Tikupasani to convince Malawians to vote for her husband.
Having a very youthful population with 70% of Malawians aged below 30, Mrs Chilima, displaying her rap skills in a bid to highlight what her husband and the United Transformation Movement (UTM) party intend to do for young people could score them some points.
