Nine-year-old Lindell Lyons can’t wait to share with his sister how he helped her come into this world.
The Florida boy is at the moment receiving all the cheers for helping his mother deliver his baby sister earlier this month.
Lyons told ABC Action News that he was eating breakfast and watching TV on August 6 when his mom, Shanelle Brantley, told him to call 911 because she had gone into labour in their Tampa home.
“I was just in shock, like I didn’t know what was gonna happen,” he said.
Lindell called 911, told dispatchers his mom was having a baby and listened to instructions.
“I was thinking, trying to remember what they said,” Lyons said.
Jared McYeo, the Tampa Fire Rescue communications training officer who was on the other end of the call later praised Lyons for doing a “fabulous job.”
He’s the one that deserves all the credit. He really held his cool, he went and followed the instructions to the letter and helped his mom deliver his baby sister,” McYeo said.
He added in his decade as a dispatcher, he’s delivered two other babies but none with someone so young as Lyons on the other end of the call.
“I’m getting ready to have a baby on Friday so all I was thinking about was, ‘OK, what if I had to do this,’ you know, (what if) somebody had to tell me how to do this. I would want it to be explained the best possible way, the easiest way,” McYeo said. “But talking to little kids on 911, they’re amazing; they’re far better than adults, in my opinion.”
Lyons’ baby sister was born on August 6 weighing 6 pounds and 14 ounces.
“I see that she’s cute and I think, I think she’s having a good dream,” Lyons was quoted by Fox5.
“It was kind of a dream to me. I was kind of nervous at the same time for him, but I said I knew he could do it,” his mother, Brantley, said.
“He was cool and calm and collected, and she just came out,” she added.
Lyons, who is very proud of himself, said: “I feel like a hero,” adding that he hopes his sister would believe him when he narrates the incredible story to her in future.
“I’ll start off from
beginning to end. And every single detail,” he said.
