Often, I hear tales of guys who boast of their sexual prowess, staying power, and ability to delay ejaculation and even prevent it completely. These men usually claim it makes the sexual experience more intense, and that afterward, you can have multiple climaxes…hmm! I recently heard of one such tale, and it got me worried: some men are actually boasting about what might be a medical condition? Before pride leads to the fall of many men, allow Face2FaceAfrica to enlighten you on what is known as a “dry orgasm.” As I always say, When you know better, you do better.

What Is a Dry Orgasm?
Dry orgasm is said to occur when a man reaches sexual climax but does not release semen (ejaculation) or releases very little semen. While it usually isn’t harmful, it can often be a result of many medical conditions or legal and illegal drug use and can interfere with a man’s ability to Father a child.
Dry orgasm can occur after repeated orgasms, especially in younger men, because there is a temporary lack of semen so there’s little or nothing to release. This is, however, not a cause for alarm, and in this case, all a man needs is a few hours of rest and the situation improves.
Side note: This is, however, not a justification for not practicing safe sex, though. The absence of visible semen doesn’t mean you cannot get a woman pregnant nor does it save you from sexually transmitted infections, so strap up, guys.
In other cases of dry orgasm, though, the men don’t produce enough semen to ejaculate because of abnormalities of the reproductive system. Extensive medical evaluation and management is usually required in these instances.
However, in some cases of dry orgasm, the semen is released but instead of coming out through the penis, it goes back in to the bladder. This is known as “retrograde ejaculation” — and this is what we’ll be talking about today.
Retrograde Ejaculation
This is a relatively uncommon condition that occurs when semen goes back in to the bladder instead of coming out through the penis during orgasm. The man still has erections and reaches sexual climax but will ejaculate very little or no semen. As described above, this is sometimes called a “dry orgasm.” Retrograde ejaculation is not harmful, but it can cause male infertility, and this is why it is worrisome for most men, so they seek treatment to restore fertility.
Retrogade ejaculation may be caused by prior prostate or urethral surgery, diabetes, some medications – like those used to treat high blood pressure — and some illegal mood-altering recreational drugs.
Having semen in your bladder is harmless as it will mix with the urine there and leave the body when you pass urine.
Signs & symptoms of Retrograde Ejaculation Include:
- Dry orgasms
- Urine that is cloudy after orgasm because it contains semen
- Inability to get a woman pregnant
When To See Your Doctor
If you experience dry orgasms a lot, please see your doctor to be sure your condition isn’t caused by an underlying problem that needs attention.
Also if you and your partner have been trying for a child (having regular, unprotected intercourse for a year or longer) and you’ve been unable to conceive, it is necessary to see your doctor.
Preventing Dry Orgasms
In many instances, dry orgasms can be prevented unless it is a result of an abnormality in the reproductive system. Here are a few tips you can adopt:
– Control your sugar intake and maintain good blood sugar levels, especially in diabetic men. This has been found to possibly be helpful in preventing the development of dry orgasms and retrograde ejaculation.
– Avoid illegal drug use. It’s all fun and games until you discover you can’t have a child.
– Always ask about the side effects of any medications you are given. Ignorance is dangerous.
– If for any reason (e.g. high blood pressure or diabetes) you have to be on certain drugs that put you at risk of dry orgasms, ask your doctor what you can do to lower your risk of developing the condition.
– If you need to have surgery on any part of your genital and urinary system, ask your doctor/surgeon about the risk of developing dry orgasms/retrograde ejaculation. If there’s any risk of this and you desire to have children, you might want to talk with your doctor about the possibility of preserving semen for later use with artificial insemination of your partner.
That’ll be all for now, folks! Next time, we shall have something for the ladies. Till then, please stay healthy and Ebola-free!
