Due to reportedly poor communication, Boko Haram’s raid of the Doron Baga village on the shore of Lake Chad didn’t hit news outlets until late in the week, when villagers finally arrived in Maiduguri and talked with reporters.

However, the delay in communicating the events couldn’t erase what happened: 26 people were reportedly killed by the militant group and at least 50 villagers were abducted.

The kidnapped are said to include mostly women but also includes boys and girls, with the boys being allegedly targeted in order to replenish Boko Haram’s ranks.
