The black hair industry is a billion-dollar industry, yet it is only recently that black women began to rock their natural hair.
The natural hair movement has been around for a while as well, but black celebrities were slaying the red carpets with their 360⁰ lace front weaves.
Even in movies, you will rarely see black celebrities dawning their natural tresses. The 2018 Netflix movie ‘Nappily Ever After’ can be said to be a true reflection of how some black women place their entire identity in their hair.
Sadly, the situation transcends from the screens right down to the little elementary school girl who would get teased by her classmates after a swimming class when her hair would just not lie down. It’s high time black women the world over embraced their natural hair.
Those in the corporate world also face so much discrimination, especially the ones in dreadlocks. Dreadlocks, for some funny reasons, has a negative connotation to it and anyone with locs is labeled unkempt.
Thankfully, this is changing, and more and more celebs are gracing the red carpet and other events with their natural hair that are sometimes worn in a high puff, an afro, bun, as well as, in protective styles like braids or faux locs.
Let us take some time to appreciate these celebs working to change the narrative about black hair.
