Floyd Mayweather is known for his prudent business deals. The celebrated boxer before retirement fought 50 times and won on all occasions. His success in the ring made him one of the highest sports earners in the world.
His net worth is estimated to be $450 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. In addition, he reportedly made career earnings of $1.1 billion, making him the fifth highest-paid athlete of all time. The other five include Michael Schumacher ($1 billion), Jack Nicklaus ($1.15 billion), Arnold Palmer ($1.35 billion), Tiger Woods ($1.65 billion), and Michael Jordan ($1.9 billion).
Mayweather, aka ‘Money man,’ retired from boxing following a mouthwatering bout with Conor McGregor in 2017. Before that, he boxed with Manny Pacquiao in 2015. Both bouts fetched the boxing legend $500 million.
Mayweather in June came out of retirement to fight YouTube personality Logan Paul in an eight-round exhibition. The bout, which was held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, had knockouts and the bout was not scored — no winner was declared.
According to Market Watch, Mayweather said he made $30 million from the sponsorships on his shorts alone. “My trunks alone, just my trunks alone, $30 million. Just with the patches on my trunks, that’s $30 million,” Mayweather said, the platform reported.
Market Watch further noted that the patches on Mayweather’s shorts included logos from the cryptocurrency EthereumMax, clothing brand Fashionova, and CBD company Smilz.
In addition to making $30 million from sponsorships on his shorts, Mayweather earned a $10 million base fee, and 50% of the pay-per-view which was around $25 million, taking his total earnings to $65m.
However, the boxer had claimed at a press conference that he made $100 million from the bout. “I’m the only person that can do a fake fight and get 100 M’s (millions),” Mayweather said.“ I could do legalized sparring and get 100 M’s. Am I the best bank robber? Cause I don’t know nobody in sports that’s my age that can still stick ’em up like that.”
Mayweather became a professional boxer in 1996 after winning three national Golden Gloves and an Olympic bronze medal. He won his first championship as a super featherweight in 1998. Since then, he has not lost any bout.
In 2019, he was rated as the highest-paid athlete by Forbes. He reportedly brought in $915 million in the past 10 years, without any big sponsorship deal or paycheck from anyone. He also made $115 million more than any other athlete.
