Lewis Hamilton wrote his name in the history books Sunday after he became the first Formula One driver to win 100 races following his first-place finish at the Russian Grand Prix.
According to CNN, the Grenadian-British driver took the first place position in the final laps of the dramatic race after overtaking Lando Norris. The 21-year-old racing driver had been in pole position until his McLaren racing car skidded off in the rain. That was after the British-Belgian racing driver switched to intermediate tires when the rains started.
And Hamilton quickly caught up with him afterwards.

“I’m unhappy, devastated in a way,” Norris said. “It was my decision, I thought it was the way to go.”
Besides his historic feat, Hamilton also climbed up to the first position of the driver’s championship standings. The 36-year-old’s 100th race victory also comes after he overtook F1 legend Michael Schumacher for the driver with the most race victories in the competition.
“It’s taken a long time to obviously get to [win number] 100 and I wasn’t even sure whether or not it would come,” Hamilton said following his victory.” So it’s good to see us united again and obviously the team made a great call right at the end.
“I didn’t want to let Lando go and of course I didn’t know what the weather was doing but I’m incredibly grateful to all these men and women that are here and back at the factory because, wow, 100.”
