A Houston man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend just days after she learned she was carrying their baby is being sought by police. According to NBC News, records filed in Harris County District Court last week reveal authorities have issued a capital murder warrant for Kwanmaine Boyd in connection with the October 6 shooting death of Cavanna Smith.

Houston Police, on Tuesday, said the 25-year-old suspect is yet to be apprehended as he’s still on the run. Smith, 25, was seemingly shot in the head. Officers found Smith’s body in the middle of a street around downtown Houston after they responded to a shooting call.

A witness who spoke to investigators said he saw Boyd and Smith involved in an argument in the middle of the street, documents stated. The witness said the couple was standing by a white pickup truck at the time. Boyd then allegedly shot Smith before fleeing the scene in his truck.

Moments before the fatal shooting, investigators established Smith sent a text message to a friend to know her whereabouts in the event something happened to her, documents revealed. And per the details of the text, Smith told her friend she had been kidnapped by “Kwan”, and she was in his truck.

When Smith’s friend asked her the reason, the deceased woman replied saying, “He got my money and don’t want to give it to me.” Smith did not reply to subsequent texts her friend sent.

Investigators ultimately located a white Chevrolet pickup registered in Boyd’s name, documents also stated, per NBC News. The truck, which was parked at an empty and locked home, was also without license plates.

Investigators who searched Smith’s home found a card she had written to Boyd. The card, which was dated October 3, read, “Kwan I know this isn’t what we expected but WE ARE expecting!!!”

Documents also stated a local nurse told investigators Smith had undergone an ultrasound on October 5. The nurse said it was likely Smith was four and a half weeks pregnant.
