The first principal of Akron’s “I Promise School” has tendered her resignation after she allegedly slapped a student for swearing. According to Akron Beacon Journal, a spokesman for Akron Public Schools said the board had received Brandi Davis’ resignation letter, and they were set to vote on it on Monday.

And though investigations into the incident have been completed, officials are yet to disclose the details. Davis was placed on paid administrative leave in September after she allegedly slapped a student who used a swear word to describe a mess he had seen in the boys’ bathroom.

The 11-year-old sixth-grader suffered a busted lip as a result of the slap. Following the incident, the boy’s mother said he sent her a text to come and pick him up, adding that Davis also called her shortly to tell her she had slapped his son for swearing.

“I was surprised, when she called me I was like, ‘Is this a dream? I’m confused. Is this a joke?’” she asked in September.

The boy’s mother reported the incident to the Board of Education and also filed a police report. Police are also investigating the incident. “Why would you put your hands on my child?” the boy’s mother said. “She said she just reacted and slapped him.”

And though the boy’s mother said Davis was apologetic following the incident, she said she wanted the principal to be terminated. “I don’t hate her, because everybody makes mistakes, but this is serious when it comes to a child being assaulted,” she said. “I would never hit my kids in the mouth to where their lip is busted.”

She also said that though it wasn’t right for her son to use profanity, she clarified he did not direct what he said at Davis as he was having a conversation with his friends. She also said her son had been left traumatized and embarrassed by the incident, and she was planning on withdrawing him from the school. That was in September.

The Akron I Promise School became operational four years ago. It was set up through a partnership between the district and the LeBron James Family Foundation, Akron Beacon Journal reported.
