Retired NBA star Shaquille O’Neal said he’s going to pay for the funeral expenses of a three-year-old Louisiana boy who was hit by a stray bullet. According to WBRZ, the victim, identified as Devin Page Jr., was sleeping at home when he was fatally struck by a stray bullet. The tragic incident occurred on April 12.
Police said they believe the bullet that hit the minor came from a gunfight that happened outside his home. Authorities are still investigating the case and no arrests have been announced.
“I’m so sorry for your loss. Me and a pastor friend are going to take care of everything,” O’Neal reportedly said in a FaceTime video obtained by the news outlet. “I’m so sorry,” the Louisiana State University alum added.
In an interview with KWTX, the deceased minor’s family said they wanted to move out of the neighborhood after they heard gunshots for a number of consecutive nights. But Page’s mother Tye Toliver said it would have cost them thousands of dollars to relocate.
“I try to stick it out. Now that I stick it out, this is the outcome of what happened,” Toliver said. “My son got killed.”
