La La Anthony is an American media personality and an entrepreneur. Born in Brooklyn but was raised in New Jersey and Atlanta, she describes herself as Afro-Puerto Rican. Both of her parents are of Puerto Rican heritage born and raised in New York City.

Career

Her entry into the media space started as an intern at Atlanta’s Hot 97.5 in the mid-1990s when she was only 15 years old. She became so popular with the audience during the era that the then morning show host of Hot 97.5, Ryan Cameron, was implored by D.Js to “make her stop talking,”, according to the New York Times. “It was an ego thing,” he said. “They gave her the rope, and she ran with it.”

She eventually landed a job as co-host at 100.3 The Beat in Los Angeles before MTV came calling, becoming known for her iconic VJ role on MTV’s “Total Request Live”. “I started interning at a radio station in Atlanta, and from there I became a radio personality. I moved to LA and then got the job as the host of Total Request Live’ on MTV and I moved to New York and became one of the hosts of MTV, and that’s where my career continued to go from there. From there, I transitioned into acting and producing and writing books and other things like that,” she told USA TODAY.

She hosted reality television shows like “Flavor of Love” and “I Love New York” and some of the films she starred in include “Think Like a Man” (2012) and “Think Like a Man 2” (2014). She also made appearances on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and “Flavor of Love” (as a host, not a contestant).

Entrepreneur space

In 2003, she co-founded Krossover Productions and produced Mike Tyson’s documentary “Tyson.” The company also produced her reality show on VH1, known as “La La’s Full Court Wedding,” which later became known as “La La’s Full Court Life.”

In addition to her production company, La La also ventured into the cosmetic space with her own brand called MOTIVES by La La. According to Celebrity Net Worth, the cosmetic line was inspired by her vision to create cosmetic products for women of color and featured products for the face, cheeks, eyes, lips, and nails.

She also launched her own clothing line, 5th and Mercer, a capsule collection which was exclusively available on Shopbop.com. She later launched another clothing line called La La Anthony Collection.

Net worth

Her career earnings and business have earned her a net worth of $30 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Private life

In July 2010, La la married N.B.A. star Carmelo Anthony. The two first met in a New York club. In an interview with the NYT, La La recalled how Anthony first tried to woo her by sending over a bottle of Moët & Chandon. “I thought it was so lame,” she said. “He was like, ‘What are you doing after the club?’ I’m like: ‘After the club? It’s 2 a.m. I’m going home. What are you doing after the club?’ ”

In 2021, La La filed for divorce from Carmelo. They share a son, Kiyan.
