A Louisiana man who was sentenced to 35 years in prison for raping a girl under the age of 13 will be chemically castrated in addition to his conviction, a judge ruled, per New York Post. The convicted man, identified as Ryan Clark, has also been barred from contacting the victim, Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney, Scott Perrilloux said, adding that he has also been ordered to register as a sex offender and waive any parental rights he has to any children.

Clark was sentenced last Tuesday after he entered a guilty plea to second-degree rape, molestation of a juvenile under 13, and sexual battery. Authorities in Louisiana legalized chemical castration for certain crimes in 2018. Individuals found guilty of offenses including molestation of a juvenile, aggravated rape, forcible rape, second-degree sexual battery, aggravated incest, and aggravated crime against nature, face the aforementioned punishment.

Authorities launched an investigation after an individual reported “inappropriate behavior” involving Clark and the victim. The victim reportedly confided in the person, who in turn, reported the convicted sex offender. The said “inappropriate behavior” between Clark and the victim lasted for over a year. Authorities also discovered a possible second victim as they were investigating the case.

In 2015, Clark was sentenced to 128 days in jail after he was found guilty of misdemeanor carnal knowledge of a juvenile, for receiving oral sex in a public place from a minor.

Chemical castration reportedly involves an individual being injected with medroxyprogesterone acetate, WVUE reported, which lowers a man’s cravings for sex by reducing testosterone levels. A convicted sex offender receives those injections a week before the person is released from prison.
