Ike Turner Jr., the son of deceased award-winning singers Tina Turner and Ike Turner, was on May 6 arrested after police found crack cocaine in his possession during a traffic stop, PEOPLE reported. During his encounter with the officers, Ike Jr. allegedly tried to consume the narcotics in his possession.
The 64-year-old, who was charged with crack cocaine possession and tampering with evidence, subsequently received an 18-day jail sentence shortly after his arrest. Ike Jr.’s jail sentence also came 18 days before the May 24 death of his mother, Tina, who is widely regarded as the Queen of Rock & Roll.
According to the Police, Officers in Alvin, Texas, pulled Ike Jr. over for a traffic offense, and through an investigation, later managed to seize 1.7 grams of crack cocaine and 0.7 grams of methamphetamine in Ike Jr.’s possession when he tried to consume the narcotics.
“He tried to eat the drugs before the officers could seize them from him,” Alvin Police Department officer, Capt. Q.T. Arendell, said. The incident report stated that an individual who was riding in the car with the 64-year-old was also charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamines).
Ike Jr. was initially Tina’s sound engineer after his mother and father went their separate ways. However, he claimed his father, who was abusive towards his mother, was not in favor of him working with the singer, causing that relationship to end.
“When my mother and father separated, he did not want me working with her — and he beat me in the head with a nickel-plated .45 pistol,” Ike Jr. claimed. In a 2018 interview with the Daily Mail, Ike Jr. also said the last time he spoke to his mother was over a decade ago.
Besides the two charges, the incident report appears to show Ike Jr. also has an outstanding warrant for a different case, per PEOPLE. Jail records state that the 64-year-old is being held at the Brazoria County Jail on a $70,000 bail.
