Rapper Key Vhani is facing a second-degree murder charge after she allegedly shot and killed her manager during an altercation that was captured on video. Per Mail Online, the fatal October 9 incident happened on a street in Miami.

In the wake of the shooting, another individual involved in the physical altercation drove over Key Vhani, whose real name is Kevhani Camilla Hicks. The suspect’s lawyers also argue she acted out of self-defense.

In the video of the shooting that was obtained by NBC6, Hicks, 27, and another man are seen standing near a white car and having a verbal altercation. The altercation then turns physical before another man identified as the suspect’s manager exits the vehicle and joins the other individual in attacking her.

The two men pin Hicks to the ground before they all stand up. As she walks away, she is seen drawing a gun from her bag and opening fire, striking her manager multiple times. The other individual in alteraction is seen entering the car and running over Hicks as he drives away.

Authorities who later responded to the scene said they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds while Hicks suffered blunt force injuries. The man later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

“We know that based on her statement, that the victim in this case is her manager and she says that she’s a singer. But we don’t know what led to this argument,” Miami Police spokesman Michael Vega said.

“The defendant stated she was in fear due to the victim’s size and upon hearing the victim yell “I’ll kill you with one hit,’” the police report also said.

Hicks also claimed the victim’s posture looked like he was preparing to lunge at her when she opened fire, Mail Online reported. She also said she feared her life was in danger when the video was shown to her.

She has since entered a not guilty plea while her lawyer says it is a “clear case of self-defense.” Hicks was also previously denied bond during an October hearing.

“I believe she does have a very good self-defense claim but that claim is a defense of the charge, it doesn’t negate the finding that there is probable cause for second-degree murder, the victim was walking away and she shot him after he was beating on her,” said Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer.

Hicks is, however, set to be released after she was granted a $50,000 bond plus house arrest during a hearing in November. Her next hearing is scheduled for February 15.
