After over 90 hours of singing, Ghana’s Afua Asantewaa Aduonum hopes to break a world record for the longest individual singing marathon.
The wife and mother of three is attempting to break the Guinness world record by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in March 2012.
She started her singing marathon at midnight on December 24, 2023, and she has been singing Ghanaian songs back-to-back at the Akwaaba Village in Ghana’s capital Accra, with hopes of surpassing Waghmare’s 105-hour record by Friday. She sings the songs in one soundproof both at the Akwaaba Village, with a DJ playing the instrumentals.
Scores of Ghanaians including musicians and political leaders have been at the Akwaaba Village to support Aduonum, who is also a media personality and entrepreneur.
Ghana’s Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia was also present to offer his support to Aduonum. Her father, Thomas Ofosu said that he is confident that his daughter will complete the task, adding that he is grateful for all the support from Ghanaians.
Aduonom, who is now a tourism ambassador, is behind the Ghana Outstanding Women Awards, which she organizes to celebrate influential women in the country.
