DDG has made it clear he’s having none of any negativity that is thrown in the way of his ex-girlfriend Halle Bailey after she complained about the rapper appearing on Kai Cenat’s livestream with their son.
Halle, 24, came under scrutiny from a section of social media users on Wednesday after she took to X to register her displeasure over their 9-month-old son Halo appearing on the livestream, saying she was not informed about it.
“I wasn’t told or notified and i am extremely upset to have my baby in front of millions of people,” the singer and actress wrote in the since-deleted post. “I am his mother and protector and saddened that i wasn’t notified especially when i am out of town.”
But DDG, 27, in a YouTube video posted on Thursday explicitly stated that he does not like it when people hate on the mother of his son. “One thing I don’t like what people do, I don’t like when people hate on Halle,” the Moonwalking in Calabasas rapper said, per PEOPLE. “I don’t care if people think she wrong or not, or if I think she wrong or right.”
The 27-year-old explained that Halle “could be going through something mentally after having a kid that I can’t understand as a man.”
“So when situations like this happen, I try to handle it with as much grace as possible because Halo needs her, I need her, we need each other to create a childhood that’s safe and fun and memorable for him,” he added.
DDG then described his son as his “biggest blessing,” stating that he cannot recall “what life was like” prior to Halo’s birth. “And I wouldn’t have him if it wasn’t for Halle, and for that reason alone, I got unconditional love and respect for her,” the She Don’t Play rapper said.
Following her initial post, Halle returned to X and said that she probably overreacted to their son’s appearance on the livestream, adding that she “shouldn’t have brought it here.”
“I know that halo is always safe with his dad. i just don’t like finding out with the rest of the world what my baby is doing. thank u kai for the gifts for halo,” the Little Mermaid star said.
DDG in the YouTube video also explained that he and Halle were “going through a very different transition.” “It’s hard for us,” he continued, per PEOPLE. “So, when lil’ stuff like this happen, it’s really nothing. People go through this type of stuff all the time,” he said.
“I just don’t appreciate when people try to put me against her or me versus her and all of this, ‘She’s wrong and he’s right, blah blah blah.’ Y’all could hate on me for as long as y’all want, but leave Halle alone, man,” he added.
Several viewers commended the rapper for defending Halle. “Nothing but respect in the response, you’ve matured immensely,” a viewer commented. “Character development really showing,” another user wrote.
“Maturity hit different,” said a different viewer. “Respect to your Mother! She raised a wonderful young man!” a different person said.
