Tyreek Hill has disclosed he’s been playing with a left wrist injury, aggravated when Miami-Dade police detained and handcuffed him outside Hard Rock Stadium before the Dolphins’ Week 1 win over the Jaguars on September 8.
Hill told ESPN’s Lisa Salters that a torn ligament, initially bothering him since training camp, became a major issue following the police encounter.
This revelation came ahead of Miami’s 23-15 victory over the Rams on Monday Night Football.
“That arrest messed me up and I’m not gonna let it stop me,” Hill told Salters.
The All-Pro wide receiver told Salters that an MRI revealed a torn ligament in his left wrist. Despite being questionable due to the injury, he played on Monday, according to the New York Post.
After the game, Hill did not mention the impact of his detainment on his wrist, according to CBS.
“He said he’s been quiet about it because he hasn’t really known how to feel or what to do or how to deal because he’s not used to being injured,” Salters said on the ESPN broadcast.
Hours before Miami’s season-opening win against the Jaguars, Hill was handcuffed and detained by Miami-Dade police.
The South Florida Police Benevolent Association stated Hill was detained for driving dangerously and was handcuffed for not being “immediately cooperative.”
Police bodycam footage captured Hill’s detainment, during which he received citations for careless driving and a seatbelt violation, according to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington.
Despite his wrist injury, Hill managed three receptions for 16 yards and scored his first touchdown since Week 1 during Monday’s game.
Hill’s touchdown in Monday’s game marked the end of his longest touchdown drought in the NFL.
The Dolphins (3-6) will host the Raiders (2-7) on Sunday.
