Ne-Yo in a recent appearance on Lemon Drop with Karleen Roy made it clear he’s not a fan of monogamy as he prefers having more than one partner. Per Vibe.com, the So Sick singer touched on his road to ultimately finding himself and why he switched to being polyamorous.
“Society tells you you’re supposed to be with one person. You get married, and that’s supposed to be the end-all, be-all,” the Grammy-winning singer said. He also revealed that his divorce from Crystal Renay Williams in 2022 helped him embrace his true self.
“I realized that I’ve not been living my truth for a very, very long time,” Ne-Yo stated. “Now I’m living it, and you can tell—my skin is glowing.”
The singer also said that over a certain period in his life, he was “lying and trying to be somebody I wasn’t” in order to please others. “It’s a weight lifted off my shoulders,” he explained. Ne-Yo also said all of that acting was “complete and utter time wasted.”
The 45-year-old clarified that his current stance on monogamy does not mean he’s condemning the practice. “Monogamy is for you. It’s not for me,” he said. “Everything’s not for everybody.”
Ne-Yo also said that his relationship with Renay has since improved after he embraced his truth. “As long as my happy ain’t messing with anybody else’s happy, I’m in the right place,” the Mad singer said. “I’ll be damned if I ever go back to that person that needed to lie for the appeasement of somebody else. I’m not that no more.”
