Meet Bishop Kim W. Brown and his wife, Elder Valerie K. Brown. They both recently became Rectors at their HBCU alma maters. Bishop Kim Brown is serving as Rector of Norfolk State University and Elder Valerie Brown is serving as Rector of Virginia State University.

The appointment of both Browns to serve at their alma maters as rectors is historic, marking the first time ever that a couple is serving as HBCU Rectors at the same time. Elder Valerie Brown took to social media to announce their historic feat, according to Becauseofthemwecan.

“We love our Alma maters, and it is a pleasure for both of us to serve and give back to the universities that gave us our start,” wrote Elder Valerie Brown.

Kim Brown earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Norfolk State University, followed by theological studies culminating in a Master of Divinity degree in 1991 and a Doctorate of Ministry degree in 1998 from the prestigious Samuel D. Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University, according to his website.

Elder Valerie Brown, on the other hand, holds a Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Virginia State University and a Doctorate in Management degree from The Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Aside from their academic journey, the husband and wife are the founders of K.W. International Ministries Incorporated, a Virginia-based Christian ministry. They have been managing the ministry for more than two decades, as per Becauseofthemwecan.

Regarded as pillars in their community, they have supported their communities in diverse ways, including supporting COVID relief efforts and supporting military families during Christmas. In addition, the two are best-selling authors and run two television shows about Christian principles and healthy marriages.

Together, they are blessed with two children, Pastor James “LJay” Brown and Dr. Kimberly Williams, as well as cherished grandchildren James Emmanuel, Jaxon Emory, Kennedy Nicole, and Kaylyn Noelle.
