Streamer and rapper DDG was briefly detained while he was livestreaming a paintball tournament after someone reported a false alarm, known as a “swatting” incident.

Per TMZ Hip Hop, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said that the Sunday incident occurred at an address in Castaic, which is north of Los Angeles. An unknown person is said to have called authorities to the address, claiming that an adult male armed with a firearm was brandishing and firing shots, as well as threatening to hurt the people near him.

Sheriff’s deputies, who responded to the address, pulled out their guns before they placed DDG in handcuffs and temporarily detained him. The incident happened while DDG, born Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., was livestreaming on his channel.

Authorities did not arrest anyone at the scene, and authorities ultimately established that the 911 call was false. There was also no armed individual at the scene, and no one appeared to be a threat at the location. DDG, 27, was uncuffed.

An investigation into the incident has since been launched, and the Detective Bureau is working on identifying the individual who made the false 911 call.

“The anonymous caller fabricated a claim that DDG was armed and threatening people, which led to an unnecessary and heavily armed police response to a peaceful paintball live stream event. This reckless and malicious act disrupted the tournament, caused unnecessary panic among attendees, and put everyone present — including law enforcement — in harm’s way,” DDG’s attorney and manager, Dimitri Hurt, told TMZ Hip Hop.

“DDG, who was there simply to enjoy and participate in the event, was deeply shaken by the incident. Having officers respond under the false belief that you are armed is an incredibly distressing and traumatizing experience. We are grateful that no one was physically harmed, but the emotional toll and the damage to the event’s atmosphere were significant.”
