Celebrated Ghanaian fashion entrepreneur Siba Adom has been awarded the African Women Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP) fellowship, celebrating successful women entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan Africa.
Adom, the founder of Chic, one of the largest-fashion brands in Ghana, is among 32 African women entrepreneurs who will be attending the three-week fellowship in the United States, according to Citi FM Online.
The fellowship will give these entrepreneurs a rare opportunity to interact and network with top U.S. policy makers, firms, industry associations, non-profit organizations, and multilateral development organizations.
“I feel very privileged to have been awarded this opportunity. I will make the most of it not just to boost my own business, but also to help other women entrepreneurs benefit from the insights and networks that I gain through the AWEP award,” Adom says.
African Women Entrepreneurship Program
The African Women Entrepreneurship Program is a trade capacity-building program started by the U.S. Department of State in 2010 in partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development.
Over the years, the program has provided firm-level technical support to sub-Saharan African women in entrepreneurship with the aim of enabling them to network and acquire the knowledge and capital they need to grow their businesses.
With this support, African women entrepreneurs have been able to expand their enterprises and create jobs in their respective countries, contributing to economic growth in Africa.
The program is currently supporting women in a wide range of businesses, including agri-business, food processing, textile, fashion, and home décor.
