A German lawmaker has elicited anger after a racist tweet describing the mixed-race artist, DJ and son of German tennis legend Boris Becker as a “half-n****r”.
Jens Maier tweeted in the German language last Tuesday saying: “The little half-n****r just seems to have been paid too little attention, otherwise his behaviour cannot be explained.”
The tweet which was later deleted was in response to 23-year-old Noah Becker’s interview with a German magazine in which he said he had been attacked in Germany “because of his brown skin colour” and that Berlin is a “white city compared to London or Paris”.
After the uproar over the racist tweet, Jens Maier told local media Bild that an employee posted the tweet and it was deleted immediately after it was seen.
The MP from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party who is a former judge was widely criticised by Germans in the mainstream and social media including his party which also faced backlash during the New Year for an Islamophobic tweet posted by another member.
Noah Becker has pressed charges against the lawmaker for the racist slur and insult, his lawyer Christian-Oliver Moser told The Associated Press.
The artist’s mother, Barbara Becker, is mixed-race with a German father and an African-American father.
