Copperas Cove police are investigating a disturbing case in which a 12-year-old boy’s parents are accused of moving out without him.
According to police, the child’s mother, Erica Renee Sanders, and her boyfriend, Keven Dwayne Adams, allegedly moved out during the school day, leaving the apartment completely bare. The boy returned home from school to an empty apartment.
Police were called to a Primrose Drive address on Friday after the child sought help from a neighbor. The boy informed officers that his mother and her boyfriend had mentioned moving at some point, according to Fox44News.
An arrest affidavit indicates that the neighbor told officers the couple had a history of kicking the boy out of the house.

Officers reached the couple by phone, who claimed the boy’s uncle was meant to go for the boy. They, however, provided no contact information for the uncle.
The arrest affidavit states that when the uncle was contacted, he denied any knowledge of this arrangement. Police reported that Adams “complained at length” about the 12-year-old during their interview with him.
When contacted by child protective services, the couple refused to disclose their current address, according to the affidavit. Investigators had to search water utility records in order to get an address for Adams’ home on 2nd Street.
It was five and a half hours after the child left school and found himself alone before the police, the child, and the couple finally connected.
Adams reportedly informed the officers that he would refuse the boy entry to his home if they had an arrest warrant for Sanders.
Adams and Sanders were later arrested and charged with abandoning or endangering a child without intent to return, according to Copperas Cove Police Records.
The boy went to stay with his maternal uncle, according to the affidavit.
