A 15-year-old Ghanaian boy has invented a ferry ship model using household materials. The model has been used on the Volta Lake which is in need of ferries to transport the thousands of passengers in the region, reports local media.

Norsi Mawunyefia who’s a resident of Labola, a community in the Eastern Region of Ghana and Junior High School (JHS) pupil of Nkwakubew Presby School said he was inspired by his teacher to invent the ferry model after he told him of the idea.

After the idea conception, it was transferred into drawing and with the guidance and motivation of his teacher, Kpodo Gilbert; Mawunyefia says the invention was birthed. The ferry model, when tested on the Volta Lake amazingly worked.

“Young, talented and adventurous are best descriptions for budding engineers in the making who defy odds to build robots outside the normal classroom theories,” were MyJoyonline, a Ghanaian online portal’s descriptions of Mawunyefia.

Mawunyefia’s ambition is to become an engineer in the future and with this beginning, he’s got his sights on the right track.

He exhibited his “little” invention at the National Society of Black Engineers conference and exhibition at the Accra Technical University. Other teenagers equally displayed robots and inventions at the event.
