A teen mom, Shania Green, has lost her life after she was fatally hit by a stray bullet at a house party just a month after turning 18. It was her first night out since giving birth, her family said.
The incident occurred in Grayson, where she was found dead on the back patio following reports of a shooting during the early hours of Friday. The Gwinnett County Police explained that they found a bullet wound in the back of the head.
“Shania just turned 18” — and had been devoted to “lovingly taking care of her 7-month-old son,” her aunt Sadie Long posted in an online GoFundMe that’s been set for her.
“As any new mother, Shania was excited to finally get to go out and hang out for a little,” she added.
She recounted that tragically, at the house party, multiple shots from outside struck Green inside, claiming her life, as reported by the New York Post.
Long noted that “Shania was a wonderful daughter, mother, sister, granddaughter, and niece who touched the lives of everyone around her. She was known for her beautiful infectious smile and her laughter.”
She added that Green, as a new mother, was in the process of self-discovery while gracefully navigating life. Long said her glowing personality and respectful demeanor are the reasons many people are touched by her passing away.
By Thursday morning, the account had amassed over $10,000 for the family’s funeral costs. Reports indicate that gunfire broke out around 1 a.m., with cellphone footage capturing numerous young individuals fleeing the residence.
“When I looked out the window I saw a bunch of kids trying to get into their cars and leave the subdivision,” a neighbor told reporters.
The homeowner’s son hosted the event while the parent was away, according to a relative of the homeowner. Currently, no suspects have been identified or arrested in connection with the fatal shooting, as confirmed by officials and the family of the deceased.
